Certain games are tailored to certain audiences. Some are made specifically for the casual playerbase, others try to combine a reasonable depth with accessability and others again are aimed at those people that appreciate a little challenge and rough handling every now and then.
If OP doesn't like the game because it tends to be an utter torture at times, especially at first. Fine.
I can perfectly understand his viewpoint and wish him best luck in finding something he can enjoy. I will also agree that there are several aspects of the game that are needlessly complicated/difficult and many things that can be done to increase player retention without sacrificing the overal "HTFU" philosophy that caters to the "hardcore crowd".
This, however, does not mean that every new "leaving" thread is a burning testament of "poor game mechanics" or that CCP has to cater to a target audience that they never aimed at in the first place. It's a niche game (just like EVE) and as such does things in ways that the median playerbase does not appreciate. That's, in part, by design. |

Depending on how carefull you are at picking your targets and who you are screwing with. It actually can be.
But I will agree that variety, both in modes aswell as maps amplifies the issue as frustration is paired with boredom for a toxic cocktail of "F**k it".

Eve has more choice than fight v Titans .. oh so they killed you HTFU which is the mentality you seem to be preaching
The stomping is acceptable in moderation and HTFU could be applied if it was every now and again but it isn't , new players are subjected to it game after game day after day for months and there comes a time when you have to think .. actually it's a bit too much we need to scale it down a bit
Because of wildy varying numbers per team, matchmaking can currently be very "bad" with "bad" being more of an euphemism than an accurate description so, in essence, i agree with you that things have to be changed.
But even with everything working as intended, players might still face squads full of protobears or otherwise higher tier gear all the time.
CCP is not going to implement any kind of "tiered matches" as far as i can tell so matchmaking will be limited to balancing player skill, not gear or SP. Players will have to deal with the fact that others can buy a better chance at winning for increaseed risk if they choose to and that often a direct approach like most other FPS allow and encourage will not work in that situation.
I've seen enough blueberries mindlessly running into organized squads dozens of times, dying horribly and trying again and again, somehow expecting a different outcome each and every time. I can see how this is frustrating but I also expect this to continue to happen even when matchmaking gets fixed and proto gear finally serves its role.
I do really wonder how many of those who are leaving now because of matchmaking issues would still get frustrated and, to get back to my first reply, how many of those will still realize that this game is not meeting their expactations. |
